The first dish The Wife made was a salad. Well, sort of. Just take some tender okra, steam them for 10 minutes, leave to cool and then drizzle on the dressing. That’s it, easy peasy.

Purple is the colour of comfort food
To make the drink, peel the sweet potatoes, chop into rough chunks and steam them for around 15 minutes. While they cool, weigh and heat up the milk. Finally, dump everything into a heat-resistant jug, whizz it all up with an immersion hand-blender and enjoy.

1996 was a great year for Hong Kong movies. Because in 1996, the fantastic 《食神》 (God of Cookery) was released. There are so many classic scenes in that movie, but one unforgettable segment has to be when Stephen Chow made 《 黯然销魂饭 》。 It’s a challenge to translate the name of that dish to English, but “Sorrowful rice of ecstasy” is probably as close as it gets.

Of all the fruits in the citrus family, I’d say that the kaffir lime is probably one of the ugliest. It’s lumpy, wrinkly and doesn’t look particularly appetising. The rind is quite thick and the fruit itself doesn’t yield much juice. Its redeeming quality though, is that the zest is very flavourful and makes a wonderful ingredient for desserts.
