I’m seriously tempted by Nylon Coffee’s monthly filter subscription

Everton Park, where Nylon is physically located, is quite a distance from where I stay. And so far, I’ve only visited them every eight years, give or take.

Recently though, I’ve started buying from their webshop and just got three bags of their Ethiopia Gogogu Bekaka and El Salvador Las Palmas delivered. They are happily resting in my coffee corner, awaiting their turn to be opened.

I’ve been following Nylon’s IG for quite some time, and every month, they post information on their filter subscription coffees.

Most times, these coffees don’t appear on their webshop and are only dispatched to subscribers.

Sometimes, when they have enough beans and roast extra batches, they offer them online to the general population. But these tend to get snapped up pretty quickly — blink, and they’re gone.

Filter Subscription

The subscription coffees are usually posted on their Instagram page upon release, and recent ones from Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya and Honduras look quite interesting and attractive.

Both The Wife and I would have particularly enjoyed the Ethiopia Kedir Bali that was offered earlier this January.

Tasting notes of the naturally-processed heirloom beans from Yirgacheffe indicated “peach lemonade, rose, strawberry, cotton candy.”

Yums!

IG captions provide extensive information about each subscription coffee as they’re released, including background stories on the farms and their farmers. They make for interesting reading, and I’ve been happily clicking through the links below to find out more.

Subscription Details

The Nylon subscription FAQ page provides all the pertinent details. But in a nutshell, and assuming 1 bag delivered to a local address in Singapore:

  • Cost = S$ 23.80 nett, inclusive of local shipping. Since local shipping is S$ 3.80, this translates to coffee bean price of S$ 20.00 per bag.
  • Weight = Not mentioned in FAQs, but from recent IG photos, most bags show 200gm on their labels. Therefore, the equivalent cost for 250gm bag (including shipping) = S$ 28.80.
  • Coffee = Filter coffee from exclusive micro-lot, new coffee not released on webshop or favourite coffee from current lineup
  • Roasting Date = First Tuesday of current month, unless otherwise indicated on socials
  • Delivery Date = 1-3 business days after roasting date (estimated)
  • Subscription Changes = No changes to address or quantity, no pause or skip flexibility. Need to cancel and create new subscription for any changes.
  • Duration = No minimum binding period, subscription will continue until cancelled. Can cancel anytime via online account.
  • Sign-up Deadline = 28th of previous month
  • Billing = Charged upon sign-up, and automatically billed monthly thereafter
  • Returns Policy = No returns accepted. Coffee delivered not refundable unless serious faults/defects undetected by visual inspection. Contact hello@nyloncoffee.sg for issues.

Pulling the Trigger, Almost

I happily clicked on the subscription link and filled out all the necessary details.

Nylon filter subscription

Just as I was about to pull the payment trigger, I suddenly realised that I had 1.5 kg of beans sitting in my coffee corner. Which, at our daily 25gm consumption rate, would take about two months to consume.

I think I may have bought too much coffee.

So, I’ll have to hold fire on signing up for now and wait for May to roll by. In the meantime, I’ll just have to make do with my existing beans, and read about the coffees that I’d be missing out on.
